From our veranda in Mouronho we have a beautiful view of the mountain range “Serra do Açor” This mountain range consists mostly of slatestone.

This opposite to the highest mountain range of Portugal, the “Serra da Estrella”, which consists of granite.

This area is rich in water, you will see little streams and small waterfalls flowing from the mountains everywhere which results in the abundant greenery in every season.

Hidden in the Serra do Açor you will find little gems of villages, all worth a visit. These lovely slatestone villages can be seen on foot due to well marked hiking trails or by car.
